I would like to start off by welcoming you to this blog where we will be discussing anything and everything that is ”Big Brother 7: All Stars.” Since its beginning, (well, since season 2 anyway) “Big Brother” has become one of the most popular and talked about reality competitions to ever exist. However, the question that still baffles me is why. Is it because we, as Americans, enjoy seeing people argue over pointless things? Is it because we like seeing people lie, cheat and deceive each other? Or, could it be because we like the constant strategizing and manipulation that takes place in that crazy house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 70-somewhat days?
Personally, I believe that “Big Brother’s” success can be attributed simply to its originality. Think about it, 14 or so complete strangers move into a house like no other, where more than 50 cameras follow your every move; and 76 microphones capture your every word; it is the Big Brother House. They all enter the house with the same goal in mind, to be the last one standing. They live in total confinement, cut off from the outside world. Every week, the houseguests compete for food, luxuries, and most importantly, power. Each week they vote to evict one of their own until only one houseguest remains to claim the half million dollar prize. With the producers adding their sporadic game changing twists here and there, it’s a wonder how this reality competition doesn’t have a lifelong contract with CBS by now.
For those of you who have watched only a few episodes of “Big Brother,” or only have a rough idea of what the show is about I strongly urge you to go the following link before reading further: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Brother_(U.S.) (If I was to present any explanation about the show I would simply regurgitate the information that’s already posted there, in fact, I would probably just copy and paste that entire article since that I tend to be unfathomably lazy which would result in a unnecessarily long introduction.)
The origins of this blog were simple. As I’m sure all of you know by now, (either by having prior knowledge, or by reading the Wikipedia article) there are multiple ways to play “Big Brother,” and each season, it never surprises me how each houseguest plays the game a different way. There are houseguests, who try to be everyone’s friend like Kevin from “Big Brother 11.” There are houseguests who make everyone’s lives a living hell “Evel” Dick from “Big Brother 8.” Then, there are houseguests who really don’t have a strategy at all like “Chicken” George from “Big Brother: All Stars.” These are just a few of the many ways to play the game.
Since that there are several strategies used in the Big Brother House; I think it would be fair to say that some are more effective than others, some work better than others, some are simply superior to others. Therefore for this Blog, I chose to narrow the focus to just season 7 of “Big Brother,” and explore how Mike “Boogie” won the game, and discuss why all of his competitors failed and were ultimately evicted.
The organization of this blog will be simpler than its origins. Each catergory will cover 3-5 week(s) of “stuff,” (for a lack of a better description,) that happened in the Big Brother House. With each post narrowing the focus even furhter to encompass only 1-2 weeks of material. The post will begin with a quick summery of the week’s/weeks’ events. From there, the post will transition into an analysis of the houseguests’ strategies used during that/those week(s), with an interwoven discussion of which strategies worked, which ones didn’t, and why. At the end of each post I will list the remaining houseguests, and write a 1-2 sentence comment about each of them. The comments will summarize each of their successes and/or failures for that/those week(s), and include anything else that I feel is worth mentioning.
With that, this draws my introduction to a close. I now leave you to explore the blog that is “Big Brother 7- An Overview of the Entire Season.”
